On Thursday November 23rd, renowned music TV director Geoff Wonfor spoke in Newcastle, by invitation of the North East Telly Net. Geoff Wonfor is renowned as director of 'The Tube' and 'The Beatles Anthology' - to mention just a couple of highlights from a distinguished career spanning not only music television, but drama and documentary film too. As a Geordie boy with an international reputation, Geoff still has his feet firmly on the ground; when producing a recent concert video raising funds for the RVI's cancer unit, Geoff crewed the film by training former patients of the unit itself. He showed clips from this and from some of his other productions at the event, which took place at the Apartment bar in Collingwood Street, Newcastle, with drinks afterwards. northeasttellynet.co.uk is a new networking group for anyone in the North East connected to the film and TV industry. Neil Percival, a freelance director who's one of the group's founders, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled that Geoff agreed to come and chat to us. His experience is quite unique and it's a fantastic opportunity for the network to grow." Freelance producer Kavita Kumar added: "The network seems to have really taken off. Our industry is still completely contact-driven, but it's also becoming more and more fragmented - at the moment I think we simply provide a much-needed way for professionals to stay in touch and keep their ears to the ground, but we have plans to provide more structured support in the very near future." |
