The University of Teesside are running a number of creative courses as part of its Spring University during February, March and April.
These FREE short courses provide university-level study in the following subjects: Design for Web Publishing: Dates: Mon, Wed & Thurs for five weeks from 19th February Time: 6.00pm - 9.00pm Introduces the principles of designing for the web. It aims to develop the essential knowledge and skills required for effective web page design and students will have the opportunity to design their own web pages. Macromedia Studio MX, including Dreamweaver, Freehand, Flash and Fireworks, will be used alongside Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady. Qualification: 30 credits Digital Design: Dates: Mon, Wed & Thurs for five weeks from 19th February Time: 1.30pm - 4.30pm Introduces the fundamental principles of designing with digital tools, from research and initial ideas to a final presentation stage. Students learn about the creative processes involved in using computer facilities to originate, develop and implement solutions to graphic design problems. Design projects will be undertaken using appropriate elements of industry-standard software, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Macromedia Studio MX. Qualification: 30 credits Digital Photography: Dates: Mon, Tues and Fri for five weeks, from 19th Feb Time: 9.30am - 12.30pm Offers a broad and practice-based introduction to the potential of digital photography within art and design. It assumes no previous knowledge and enables students to explore a range of ideas, processes and methods while building a portfolio of original digital work in response to their own negotiated project brief. Qualification: 30 credits Introduction to Creative Writing: Dates: Thursdays for eight weeks from 1st March Time: 6.00pm - 9.00pm Group and individual writing activities will broaden the awareness of the approaches, techniques and forms available to writers. Students receive feedback on their work-in-progress. Qualification: 10 credits Regional Writing: Dates: Thursdays for eight weeks from 22nd February Time: 6.00pm - 9.00pm Enables the student to explore ideas of region and identity by combining the study of popular texts (e.g. fiction, poetry, autobiography) with personal writing. It covers issues such as memory, family and community, gender, class, landscape, region, place and nation. Qualification: 10 credits Get a taste of university life or develop essential skills for study or employment with a spring course at the University of Teesside. Our Spring University short courses provide university-level study in a range of exciting, interesting and useful subjects. Many of these courses have been designed for people who want to return to study after a break from education. Spring University courses carry recognised university credits. Unless otherwise stated, when you have accumulated 20 credits, you will be awarded a University Certificate in Continuing Education. You may also be able to use credits towards another university qualification. The majority of courses have no formal entry requirements.
