Public Places Silent Spaces PDF Print E-mail

Who: digital artists and filmmakers

Where: Showroom Cinema, Sheffield.....

What: Showroom Cinema in Sheffield will soon be installing two new permanently sited projectors in public spaces within the building, one in the Showroom bar and the other in the entrance foyer to the two largest cinema screens as part of Digital Space www.digitalspace.org.uk

Both spaces are public and, at opposing times, are highways and static spaces within the cinema. They both have ambient sound from crowds, music and general noise during public times; at other times they are silent and empty.

In order to explore these notions of silence ('noise-polluted' and drowned / closed and quiet) we are asking artists to submit work that explores the theme of silence in public and private spaces.

Fee: Selected artists will receive a fee of £150 and some costs towards expenses for coming and talking about their work

Information and entry forms: www.showroom.org.uk/special_events.html

When: ongoing series of exhibitions throughout 2007

Deadline: 01 April 2007
