The Forge and Sunderland City Council Film Commission PDF Print E-mail

The Forge is seeking to employ a film maker or animator with experience of working within the Education and Community Sectors to create a film or a number of films with young people from Sunderland. 

The project will involve pupils from primary and secondary schools from across the City of Sunderland and will reflect the views and opinions of the young people as active and responsible citizens within their own community.  

In partnership with Sunderland City Council’s Community and Cultural Services Department and supported by the Safer and Stronger Communities Fund (Neighbourhood Element) the film should aim to explore the consequences and impact of antisocial behaviour including litter and graffiti upon local communities. 

Consultation with a range of partners will be required therefore it is extremely important that the film maker/animator appointed has a flexible approach and is open to partnership working.

The film/films will be made available to all school children across the City of Sunderland.

Delivery deadline for completed films: 1 July 2007

 

Target audience:  To be agreed by planning group (making the film accessible to all children from early years to Secondary – pitching it!)

 

Aims

 

§         To generate a creative project which uses film to explore young peoples’ attitudes, views and opinions about the impact of anti-social behaviour including graffiti and littering on their lives and local environment, and to give voice to their ideas

§         To raise awareness of the impact of antisocial behaviour upon communities

 

Objectives

 

§         To produce a high quality documentary film with the direction of a professional film maker

§         To work with young people from schools in identified areas across Sunderland

§         To contribute to the following City of Sunderland Local Area Agreement Local Outcomes:

1.      To create cleaner, safer and greener public spaces in Sunderland

2.      To empower local young people to have a greater voice and influence over local decision making and the delivery of services

3.      To improve the quality of life for people in the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods and ensure service providers are more responsive to neighbourhood needs and improve their delivery

 

Film maker responsibilities

 

§         Liaison with schools

§         Workshops in schools

§         Plan, script and storyboard the film/films

§         Lead on filming

§         Editing

§         Evaluation and monitoring

§         Attend showings and premieres as appropriate

 

Process

 

March 07                   Advertising, interviews and appointment of film maker

May – June 07         School workshop programme/filming

June – July 07         Editing and distribution

July 07                       Premiere in central venue, schools and plans for dissemination

September 07          Agreed dissemination of film across City of Sunderland schools

 

Budget available

 

Between £5,000 - £15,000 dependent on number of film makers appointed.

 

Requirements

 

We would like to work with film makers/animators who:

 

§         Have at least 4 years experience of working producing and directing high quality films

§         Have a practical knowledge of developing and leading participatory projects

§         Are willing to contribute to monitoring and evaluating creative education programmes

§         Can act as an advocate for the project

§         Have an enthusiasm for and an understanding of the importance of the arts within education

§         Have extensive experience at working within a budget to fixed deadlines

§         Hold (or are willing to complete an application for) enhanced CRB disclosure and Personal Liability Insurance up to a value of £5,000,000

 

The artist[s] commissioned to develop the project will benefit from opportunities to work alongside officers from the Project and Service Development Department of Sunderland City Council in order to increase their own knowledge and understanding as part of the planning process for the project.
