Our short-term goals are to build the foundations for a Network that provides real support and services to digital women across the North East. We have been heartened by the positive responses of partner organisations who share our aims and know how much stronger we'll be if we all work together in a Network. Our formal launch later in the year will encompass all parts of the digital industries. Our detailed plans are below: check out how we can help our members. First, here's how we intend to make the North East a special place for digital women longer term. Our vision We will have achieved our aims when women are 50% of digital activities – at work and play. Now, women are between 5% and 30% of most parts of the digital sector. We know women want to get more involved – and the Network is here to make it happen. How greater involvement of women will help the North East The creative industries are seen as key for growth in the future. They mean jobs; they raise the profile of the region; they attract talented people to move and stay here. The digital sector will continue to grow. It is not in the interests of this region for 50% of its population – females – to find it difficult to develop their skills, businesses, projects. The North East has a great opportunity to become a centre of excellence for nurturing the ambitions of women who want to excel in digital skills. How the Network will help you: * access to support, advice, contacts * events: see and stage performance and presentations in a friendly environment * mentoring from Network members * workshops to swap skills * pooled knowledge through our regular newsletters and website How we'll do this: * mutual support scheme: all members know they can seek advice across the Network – it's what we're here for * partnerships with organisations across the digital sector * funding applications based on detailed knowledge of your needs and aims * lobbying to overcome obstacles to your development – based on detailed research How you can help the Network: * send email contact info of other people who will benefit from joining the Network * tell us in a full and frank way what you need! Consultation is vital for us: there will be regular opportunities to shape the future direction of the Network. If you'd like to get more involved in our Development Group, or in the sub-groups organising events, we'd love to hear from you! Our Annual General Meeting will take place in the summer – full details will be published here on the website and emailed to members. |
