The Network has exciting plans: they're based on the feedback from our members. You can read them below - do let us know your views and suggestions. Our vision We will have achieved our aims when women are 50% of digital activities – at work and play. Now, women are between 5% and 30% of most parts of the digital sector. We know women want to get more involved – and the Network is here to make it happen. How greater involvement of women will help the North East The creative industries are seen as key for growth in the future. They mean jobs; they raise the profile of the region; they attract talented people to move and stay here. The digital sector will continue to grow. It is not in the interests of this region for 50% of its population – females – to find it difficult to develop their skills, businesses, projects. The North East has a great opportunity to become a centre of excellence for nurturing the ambitions of women who want to excel in digital skills. How the Network intends to make a difference * Welcoming women into the digital world : clearer “signposting” from initial interest, to growth and recognition. The digital sector is new and changing. It can be too informal and confusing – women have asked for a clearer infrastructure to help make progress in their chosen direction. We will provide this through the website, brochures and crucially, through a personal advice service. * Advice, pooled knowledge, mutual support: women already provide this – the Network will make it more efficient via our confidential member's web services. * Directory of projects and people: a speedy simple way to match your talents with opportunities for commissions, jobs, projects. * Showcase work: regular events to network and skills-swap * Personal development: the Network will audit your needs and broker provision with training providers. This includes the practicalities such as learning environments and caring responsibilities. * Lobbying: a voice for your concerns. Our members feel passionately that more can be done to ensure the next generation is offered more effective encouragement for females to choose digital careers. The Network can campaign to achieve real change. Consultation is vital for us: there will be regular opportunities to shape the future direction of the Network. If you'd like to get more involved in our Development Group, or in the sub-groups organising events, we'd love to hear from you! |
